Happy Birthday to me...

So it's 1am on my birthday - officially i haven't been born yet (I was born at 6pm but still...) - and i'm sitting up in bed wearing nothing but my husband's singlet and about to give myself a very bad birthday present - heartburn! See, my idea of a birthday midnight snack involves fresh kenkey, hot pepper, sliced avocado and fish...in bed. Hey, some people have sex, i eat kenkey. Same difference, no?

Hmm, it's one of those thirty-mumble-something birthdays where...oh GAWD, I'm HOW OLD?

Kinda sucks that i'm off alcohol these days so i can't even drown my sorrows in a vat of akpeteshie! Somebody make me a virgin mojito quick!

It Broke!!!

Oh my! I take it back - my life isn't boring. No siree! Please stop with the drama already!

Someone managed to break our solid glass coffee (center) table this evening. (No it wasn't me.) This thing must weigh over 200lbs and yet he managed to break it! He didn't sit on it. He didn't jump on it. All he did was put a plate of food on the thing - and it shattered. Imagine that!
I'm not too bummed about it - i really didn't like that table much anyways - now i've got a nice excuse to replace it!

So i am now the owner of a new laptop - i got a dell xps this time. Let's see how long this one lasts eh?

HEH!!!

...and then I went and jinxed it! Remember how i said it was a nondescript day (previous post)? Well just before i went to bed, the damned laptop went kaput! Haaba! Exactly 1 month after the warranty expired! Dagnabbit! So tomorrow i'm off to shop for another laptop - my 3rd in 2 years!
I give up!

Booooooring!!!!

Today has been one of those nondescript days where absolutely NOTHING of importance has occurred. I woke up at my usual time, went to work at the usual time, did all the usual things at work, ate the usual lunch, did my usual gym routine after work and i'm spending a usual quiet boring evening at home doing pretty much my usual (cooking, reading, catching up on emails etc...).
God, I need some excitement in my life! Maybe I should go shopping!

It's spring. The clocks have sprung forward. The daffodils are were blooming. The birds had returned from Morroco/Madagascar/Missisippi/wherever it is they went for the winter. The bears' hibernation has had ended. The bees are were buzzing.

It appears someone upstairs has a very strange sense of humor.

I'm sad,

My cousin just died. He was only 36. The sad thing about the whole story is that his older brother had died a year ago, also aged 36. I cannot imagine how his parents must be feeling! I'm really really saddened by all this. Times like this make me feel so helpless. What can I do or say to make them not hurt so much? I'm even afraid to call because I KNOW I'll end up bawling on the phone.
God,I miss my cousin! It hurts SO bad!

Reflections...

I've been blogging since 1999...from the days of my first HTML journal on Yahoo till i transitioned to blogspot, moved to Moveable type and then came back to blogspot. I lost a bunch of my postings when i made the transitions because I was too stupid to make backups - i intended to, but waited too long till it was too late.

Anyways, I've been going back and re-reading the blog...and I marvel how much i've grown and how my perspectives have become more refined. I admit i used to be very "in your face"...and to some extent i still am...but...life has tempered that somewhat. I've loved hard, lost hard, been up, been down, been happy, been sad and yet through it all I persevered. The eternal pessimist, I sometimes wonder when the next wave of misery is going to hit - coz i've been riding this wave of happiness a tad too long...BUT, my best mate in all his glory keeps telling me to just focus on milking it till the very last drop. His philosophy makes sense somewhat: "what's the use of worrying about what may be coming when you can enjoy what you have today?"

As i look back on where i've come from, I see the evolution in me - and i kinda like the direction i'm headed. No, i haven't "arrived" (whatever that means). But, it's a journey, and i can finally say it's one hell of a ride, and i'm glad i'm on it!

Oh HELL no!

Apparently i've been lying to myself all these years. According to my passport and drivers license, i'm 5 feet 5 inches tall. I kinda figured, ok mebbe not quite 5'5" but half an inch doesn't make much of a difference, right? RIGHT? I mean, i look like i could be 5'5"ish, don't I?

Well, apparently i'm not even 5'4'. Or 5'3 and a half". Or even 5'3". It seems that, unless the industrial strength tape measure was calibrated wrongly, I'm actually ONLY 5'2 and not quite a half ".

Do you know how this makes me feel? Worse than when i found that the tooth fairy wasn't real. Worse than when George Bush won the 2000 election. Worse than when i found out that some guy i had a crush on was gay.

It's now a proven fact - I'm officially a midget!

In other news, I'm ill! I'd been feeling rather poorly all weekend and now i'm really sick - plugged up, stuffed up, congested, achy, sore, etc etc. I even had to take a sick day from work.

It snowed!!

We had about 2 inches of snow last night. And it was COLD! Hey, but I got to stay at home today (and work from home), so it's all good. I made horlicks and stayed in my pajamas all day!
The last time it snowed (about 10 days ago or so), i was rear-ended by some idiot that drove off. Luckily there was no major damage, just some minor scratches, but still!
So yeah, there was no way i was driving to work today. Looks like more of the same tomorrow, but we'll see.

The Great African Scandal

I watched this video and it made me sad and it made me mad. Now i'm going to figure out a way to help the best way I can. If you're moved by what you see I implore you to reach within yourself and help a child out. I'm not asking for a formalized giving scheme a.k.a. save the children or what have you....but take the extra time, make the extra effort and find out how you as one person can help improve the life of a child - or you can recruit others to help...
Everyone deserves a chance, dontcha think?

The Merry Maid of Kirkland

This past Sunday I moonlighted as a Merry Maid because I was possessed by the spirit of cleanliness. I say spirit because WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND CLEANS FOR 10 FREAKING HOURS STRAIGHT? Did I say cleaned? I meant dusted, mopped, scrubbed, scoured, disinfected, moved furniture around, moved stuff into storage, got rid of stuff. Even had the carpets steam cleaned and did 2 loads of laundry to boot! I started around noon, and didn't get done till after 1opm. And multitasker that i am, i even managed to prepare omo tuo and abenkwan with beans for dinner!

24 hrs later, I'm still tired...but my, what a spotless house! Ya know, if i'm ever laid off, i think there's a future for me in housekeeping.

I'm addicted!

That facebook thing is evil. EVIL I tell ya! I resisted temptation for a couple of years till i finally caved in and signed up...and now i'm addicted! I desperately need to find another distraction - and fast, coz this thing is eating up ALL my free time!

Another year has come and gone...

Oh wow...what a year!

It's the last day of 2007 and i'm sitting here thinking about how eventful a year it's been for me. I started out the year thinking it was going to be one of those bleh nondescript years...and boy was I in for a surprise!
Let's recap the year shall we?

Highlights:
1. Ran away to Jamaica and got married! (yah, you read that right!)
2. Moved to the Puget sound area
3. Made new friends
4. Spent Christmas in CA
5. Became a citizen of the good old US and A (apologies to Borat)
6. Finally let go of some demons that had haunted me for a bit
7. Was actually able to visit Tillamook and not have nightmares about it
8. Threw a surprise birthday party for kotobabi mantse
9. Grew to LOVE sushi!
10. Waking up next to someone i totally adore every single day!

Lowlights:
1. Medical emergencies that had me questioning my inner strength
2. The cats! The cats! God i miss them cats!
3. Dealing with some existential angst

All in all it's been an extremely good year for me - perhaps one of the best years of my life ever...and it's almost scary! I almost don't know how to deal with such good fortune!

Have a happy new year everyone - and here's wishing prosperity (both financial and non-financial) to you all! Let's hope 2008 is as good to me as 2007 was!

I have a bunch of resolutions that i need to work on - i'll save that for a later post. Now, i'm going to catch a few zz's and head off to the Couve in the morning for the new year.
